Rebecca Warren's 'Regine' is a typical example of the artist's sculptural work. After the work has been cast in bronze, the original clay is returned by the foundry and the artist reworks it to create new sculptures that get further and further away from the original. The resulting forms seem incomplete, awkward, deformed, yet feminine, and the artist has described her work as veering towards the grotesque. The enquiry into sculptural tradition and her experimentation with materials are Warren's main concerns. She pays homage to the artists she admires, from Edgar Degas and Pablo Picasso to Helmut Newton and Auguste Rodin, whilst at the same time questioning their authority and process.
